All I Want…

In HR & Management roles, we are so often doing the speaking and the teaching that we rarely have the opportunity to be spoken to and taught. Annual SHRM conferences like #TNSHRM13 give HR professionals the opportunity to be poured into, all while connecting and forging life-long personal and professional relationships.

When I think of the upcoming SHRM conference here in Tennessee, I think of the Christmas song I enjoyed and sang as a kid, “All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth.” Well All I Want For TNSHRM Are My Two Front Seats…to the Sessions! Why am I so excited you ask? Because not only will I be able to meet great people and earn HRCI Credits, but I will be able to “Design My Own Conference” with Five Learning Tracks that meet my specific educational and development needs.

Strategic Business Management
From learning how to recognize and evaluate trends in the workplace, to becoming a trusted advisor, attendees looking to take their business and human resources expertise to another level strategically should leave with a definite edge.

Culture By Design
Have you tried it all, and just can’t seem to get your employees as excited about the organization as you are? We’ve all been there. Without knowing our employees and what makes them tick, there is no way that we can tap into their full potential and produce at the highest possible levels. Motivation, inspiration, and methods of connecting with our workforces will be on tap as several of the workshops during the conference will focus on culture and how to improve it.

Total Rewards
When we think of wellness, are minds automatically turn to health. If we picture it like a pie, there are many slices that make up the whole – and healthcare makes up merely a portion of it. Managing the other slices are a sure way to increase employee engagement and employee buy-in to our organizations.

From properly administering a 401(k), to providing the proper retirement resources, to making over a compensation plan, we’ll be equipped through this educational tract with the tools and knowledge to contribute to the Financial Wellness and ultimately the wholeness of our employees.

Talent Management
Before you can develop quality employees, you have to identify and select quality employees. We also want our valued employees to stay, but are managers self-evaluating and making the changes necessary to retain them?

If not, don’t you worry. The entire talent management life-cycle will be covered by dynamic presenters from recruiting, coaching, managing, retaining and succession. As an added bonus, there’s a session that covers how to do these things using Social Media!

Legal & Legislative
All of our learning, tweeting and networking would be for naught if we did not have a learning track promoting and helping us to be more compliant. How we compensate doesn’t matter if we’re not treating employees fairly. Motivation doesn’t work if employees don’t feel comfortable at work. Who cares about the company culture if it’s one that is full of inconsistencies. What good is a seat at the table if we are not protecting the company’s bottom line by avoiding costly mistakes. Compliance is the name of the game and we all have to suit up and get in it.

TNSHRM13 promises to have something for everyone: education, networking, golf, an Executive Series (sponsored by BCBS of TN), social media, dancing (I’m teaching the Wobble) and the list goes on and on.

I look forward to seeing you, learning with you and connecting with you at TNSHRM13, September 15-18 at Gaylord Opryland Hotel (in my backyard). Special thanks to MissionPoint Health Partners for being our title sponsor and to MTSHRM and CBiz for giving me the opportunity to share the goodness with you all live via Social Media during the conference!
